The Silver Bullet: A Legacy of Precision and Passion

While hunting through our archives for a photo of our prize-winning 1958 Cessna 310B, we took a moment to reflect on just how far this “Silver Bullet” has come. Looking at her today, it is hard to believe she is nearly 70 years old—a true testament to the power of meticulous maintenance and the Brant Aero standard.

A Masterpiece of Business Aviation

When this aircraft first took to the skies in 1958, it was widely regarded as the most modern and well-appointed business aircraft available. It represented the pinnacle of general aviation luxury and performance. The story of our specific 310B (C-GHDK) began with a promise: Bud and Pat and their sister Francie made when they purchased the aircraft from a widow who had one simple request, that they provide a “good home” for her late husband’s beloved plane.

Modern Innovation Meets Classic Design

The Field family did more than just provide a home; they provided a transformation. In 2000, the Silver Bullet was acquired and completely updated to the most modern standards of the time. We leveraged our expertise as a leading Canadian avionics facility to install a full glass cockpit that rivaled modern turbine aircraft, and the interior was refurbished to offer 21st-century passenger luxury.

To maintain its iconic mirror finish, the Bullet still undergoes a comprehensive two-day professional polishing process annually, followed by a complete wipedown after every single flight.

Precision Performance: Dialed In by Pat Field

While she may be due for another full-blown avionics and interior update in the near future, Pat Field currently has her “dialed in” with no snags and three of everything imaginable for ultimate redundancy and safety.

The heart of the Silver Bullet is just as impressive as its polished exterior. The engines were overhauled by our ATC (Aircraft Test Center) division and operate “on condition,” remarkably burning less than one litre of oil between changes. A major secret to this longevity? The Silver Bullet has been using AvLube for 15 years, ensuring the internal components remain pristine and protected from corrosion.

Our Heritage, Your Advantage

The Silver Bullet serves as a living laboratory for the services we provide to our clients. Whether we are performing a routine inspection, a complex turbine engine service, or a full glass-panel upgrade, we treat every aircraft with the same level of care and stewardship that we give to our own family legacy.

The Next Chapter

As we look to the future, we know that our time as stewards of this piece of history may one day come to a close. When Pat eventually retires, it may be time to pass the Silver Bullet along to the next loving owner, someone willing to preserve her through a complete refurb for another 25 years of flight.
