Assuming aircraft sale is completed — what’s next?

The FAA will upon receipt of the necessary documents, deregister the aircraft within a few days. At this stage we can apply for the new Certificate of Registration at Transport Canada. This can be done by email.  This is now an expedited service with a 10 day turnaround assuming all paperwork is in order. We make sure of that.

We will need to provide the following once deregistered:

  1. Bill of Sale
  2. Receipt for fee paid for C of R
  3. Incorporation documents if corporately owned
  4. C of R application
  5. MSI 26 form signed off by Transport Canada MDM (we have on staff)
  6. Letter signed by new owner authorizing Brant Aero to act as agent in all of the registration and Certificate of Airworthiness paperwork. That way we can take care of everything.

What happens after the new Certificate of Registration is issued?

Brant Aero will have been working very hard to complete any work identified and approved to be completed. We will remove the US registration and install the new Canadian Registration. We also restrap the transponder to reflect the new registration and if applicable the ELT. Once the aircraft is done and the new log books have been completed the aircraft is presented to the MDM on staff and he will review the records and inspect the aircraft and then issue the new Certificate of Airworthiness. The aircraft will have final test flight and wash and be ready for service.

The process is really “straight forward”. We make it easy for you and we are here to answer all the questions you may have.

Often owners use the downtime of an importation to upgrade radios or complete the preventative or recommended maintenance. Therefore the time for importation is directly related to the amount of work that is being scheduled during the process.

You can expect a quote for any and all work in advance and a schedule that reflects the work decided on.

Buying in the USA can be more costly BUT if you cant find the aircraft you want then going south is the only choice. The cost to import and value of an aircraft being already Canadian are factored in the market.
