Pre-Purchase Inspection Explained (PPI)

The Pre-Purchase Inspection is basically a 100 hour inspection without the completion of servicing and/or complete disassembly. This inspection is combined with a detailed inspection of the logs books. Besides identifying any airworthy concerns we are paying attention to the condition generally, the care and respect from its previous owner, operations and the completeness and accuracy of the log books and its records. The logs are a part of the value of the aircraft. As part of the PPI we can identify areas where risk may lie in the future and or what preventative maintenance should be looked into. We do other mundane things like verify the aircraft meets the type certificate, that mods done previously meet Canadian standards, that the aircraft is as represented. Our goal is to identify all findings for you in a clear way so you can make a decision on whether to buy and if you do buy what you should endeavour to have the seller pay for in order to close the deal.

You will not get a big technical report. You will get a straight forward assessment and recommendations.

The price above is assuming that we inspect only and close up the aircraft and return it to seller as we found it. There will be minor extras such as an oil filter, maybe a litre of oil and or any other consumable on top of the inspection quoted above. We will not proceed with any additional work without a clear go ahead from you or the seller. There are some additional items above that should be part of every PPI but are dependent on some factors. An aircraft that has had an oil change within 10 hours will render an oil sample analysis limited in value. A borescope is typically done as part of the PPI but if we need to document the findings and share them digitally it is extra. A test flight by our Flight test pilot is very much encouraged. Pat Field has been flying for 45 years and is an expert Avionics Engineer who is cable of testing every system on board any single or twin aircraft.

If during the inspection we identify any issues or items that require additional investigation to resolve, this is charged at $100.00/hour and is always approved in advance before we proceed. As an example, we sometimes run across Airworthiness Directives that have been signed off but lack the detail necessary for us to determine if a repetitive inspection has been relieved. We may need to partially disassemble the aircraft to complete a more detailed inspection or obtain a serial number and so on.
